Delmer Berg. Anaheim (California) 1915 – California 2016
The son of European emigrants, Delmer Berg was born on December 20, 1915 in Anaheim, a town in California. Very young he leaves the studies to help his parents, who were struggling financially after the great crisis of 1929 in the United States.
He works as a farmer until he decides to enlist in the U.S. Army but abandoned him before leaving for Spain.
He feels the need to collaborate with the Spanish people in favor of the Republic, so he travels to Spain in the winter of 1938 with the Abraham Lincoln Battalion. His first job will be as a gunner in the city of Barcelona, then he is destined to Teruel in order to restore telephone lines between the battle front and the rear places. Its last destination is Valencia (capital of the Republic), there is shrapnel wounded.
On his way back to his country he joined the Communist Party and, when the Second World War erupted, he was summoned and marched to fight on the Allies ' side.
Delmer Berg returned to Spain after Franco's death until three times.
